For the first time in at least the last eight years I do feel proud of being an American. The George Bush years have been nothing but an unmitigated fuckup. The man basically shit on the Constitution, and the asshole Dems we elected to Congress to clean his mess up were too fucking scared to do shit about it.

But there is hope. I don’t expect Obama to walk on water, but he’s already promising to close Gitmo, and give people trials, something we all take for granted. I expect he’s going to spend the first 100 days of his term taping the Constitution back together. I wish him luck. For the first time ever, I feel like I should be doing something to help.

We have hard times ahead. It looks like repairing our relations with Europe isn’t going to be too difficult, but the Middle East and Russia are a whole different issue. Our economy is in horrendous shape, and I don’t think the rest of the world is super thrilled at how easily our economic problems seem to spread.

As wonderful as it is that we elected a Black Man^TM president, this is not an end to racism, just another chapter. Also, the fact that every single anti-gay marriage ballot initiative in the country passed last week says something. We still have a lot of fear and a lot of hate. I have no doubt that my children’s children will be amazed that there was ever a time that we forbade homosexuals from marrying, just as I can’t imagine a time when interracial marriages were illegal. I also have no doubt that some other group will be fighting for what seems like an obvious liberty in their time. Humans are fearful creatures, but we have an amazing ability to do better.

I have hope.

I think my punctuation is more accurate to how she spoke. You can see the speech here around the 8 minute mark. Normally I’d say she just stumbled over her words, but she delivered that line confidently, much more so than other parts of the speech where she messed up.

You will have to trust me on this.” She wrote it in the voice of and signed it as “Trig’s Creator, Your Heavenly Father.”

She sent out an email to her friends and family and signed it “god”. When you also look at her church’s connections to the Dominionists and Joel’s Army, things get down right scary.

Does Sarah Palin think she’s god? Does she think god speaks through her?

I am fucking terrified.
