A Beautiful Euler

This video demonstrates what is probably the most amazing mathematical formula: eπi + 1 = 0.

For any of my non-math-nerd friends out there who actually watched the video, I think they kinda glossed over a couple steps. The expansions they show for e, cos, and sin are all the Taylor series for those functions. Also, at the end, where they show  eπi = cos π + i sin π. That step works because cos π = -1 and sin π = 0, so you get -1 + i 0 = -1. Then eπi = -1 or eπi + 1 = 0.

If that isn’t beauty, I don’t know what is!

    Tina,

    Oh right, sorry.
  • think it goes without saying that the expansions are from the Taylor series. You are so condescending sometimes.
